Tourism in Chitwan amidst the pandemic

We are glad to share with you that the Tourism industry specially Chitwan National Park and Sauraha which was battered in the shadow of Covid-19 pandemic almost for a year has gradually started revitalizing in the past few months. Chitwan started operating its tourism activities as soon as the government lifted the imposed ban though only a handful of visitors approached until the festival season in October.

This time around, the recent rise in the flow of domestic tourists has spurred tourism activities in Chitwan and Sauraha. Entrepreneurs in Chitwan have attempted to bring positive vibes in the industry by offering lucrative discounts at hotels and restaurants including all offerings, which in turn has enticed more people to travel to the district indulging themselves in wildlife activities enjoying the gracious hospitality. The growing mobility of domestic tourists which commenced from Dashain and Tihar festivals have not slowed down as expected by some tourism analysts encouraging entrepreneurs in the district.

Chitwan is the second popular place for international tourists after Pokhara for tours and number one for wildlife activities in the country. There are other National parks in the country that offers similar if not better experience while Chitwan due to the easy accessibility from the Capital makes it the prime choice for wildlife adventure in Nepal. Moreover, it is the World’s no.1 site to visit to see the famous Greater one-horned Rhinoceros.

The tourism industry around the National Park is seeing an increase in the volume of domestic tourists with Christmas and New Year around the corner. More and more tourists are traveling to Chitwan for celebration. Our Green Jungle Resort, situated at the Buffer zone of the Chitwan National Park saw its share of tourists this month offering special packages to suit the taste of the travelers. Following the same, all other resorts and businesses in the district are offering enticing packages with discounts hoping for a closure to the regressive year 2020.

The other tourist hotspots, like Pokhara, and Nagarkot are also witnessing a boom in visitors. The trekking routes, previously closed are also reopening, with Ghorepani and Poon hill being the latest to do so. The trekking routes are starting to get busier every day, and this is encouraging the businesses in the routes that have remained closed for the past 9 months. This surely is a positive indication of the brighter days in the tourism sector.

It is quite a feat to see locals and villagers in remote areas to open their doors to tourists in these trying times of the pandemic. It certainly seems that the new normal has found its place in Nepal and in the minds of Nepalese.
