Tigers, Trails and Festivals – Not just the Himalayas
The spring season is the prime time for mountain climbing in Nepal, and in the first three months of 2023, 2,475 foreign tourists have arrived for the Annapurna circuit trek. Out of the total, 1,678 were male and 797 were female, and an average of 40 to 50 tourists arrive in the ACAP area every day. However, the number of tourists visiting the Annapurna region has not seen a significant increase, causing concern for tourism entrepreneurs. In 2022, a total of 15,900 foreign tourists came for the Annapurna circuit trek, including 10,364 men and 5,536 women, while the number was 2,273 in 2021, 1,976 in 2020, and 36,647 in 2019. Most of the tourists come from neighboring countries like China and India, as well as Japan, Australia, and Britain.
The Annapurna circuit trek starts from Besisahar in Lamjung, and passes through Manang, Kaski, Mustang, and Myagdi districts. This year, the number of climbers coming to Nepal to climb different mountains has increased, and 125 climbers from 32 different countries have received permission to climb, out of which 96 are men and 29 are women. The majority of the climbers who got permission to climb are from Nepal, followed by 13 climbers from America and 8 from China.

Nepal is a vibrant and diverse country, and its various festivals reflect this aspect of the culture. One such festival celebrated by the Newari natives is the Seto Machhindranath Rath Jatra, which takes place annually at the end of March (Chaitra Sukla Aastami) to honor the god of rain, Seto Machhindranath (also known as White Machhindranath). During the jatra, the statue of the god is transported in a small chariot to Jamal Teendhara, where it is transferred to a larger chariot and taken around the city center of Kathmandu. The procession passes through places like Ason, Hanumandhoka, Jaisideval, and Lagan. The festival began on March 29, 2023, this year.
Overall, Nepal offers a unique experience for adventure enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, with its stunning mountains, diverse wildlife, and vibrant culture. We hope that you will consider visiting Nepal in the near future to explore all that this beautiful country has to offer.
